Australia 1958: When a nine-year-old white girl is found murdered in a remote cave the local police are quick to arrest an illiterate Aboriginie, Max Stuart (David Ncoombujarra). Under intense interrogation Max admits to the killing and signs the statement that will send him to the gallows.
