Cult Aussie movie based on a true story about prison conditions in one of Australia's notorious prisons
Filmed in the Clare Valley, Gladstone and the Flinders Ranges in South Australia, this prison movie was inspired by the true-life prison riot at Bathurst Jail in 1974 and its subsequent Royal Commission into New South Wales Prisons.
Bob Jewson, the film's writer, was a prisoner in the Bathurst Jail during the 1974 riot which inspired this movie. Jewson was serving a sentence for safe-cracking in the minimum-security wing of the gaol.
